The Commsaurs are Coming!

Cole Zerr

Everything you need to know about Commsaur NFTs, plus how to mint.

Several months ago, we announced our intention to launch our own NFTs.

I had started exploring the world of NFTs several weeks earlier, and I’d been completely blown away by the communities I found there. I was amazed at how the value of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) was so deeply entrenched in community — and I wanted to bring this whole new world of community to our community.

So we set about creating Commsaur, a collection of NFTs based on our beloved mascot (who we recently immortalized in our new logo). Our plan was to start minting in late 2021.

Of course, as tends to happen when you dive into ambitious projects in a rapidly changing, ever-expanding space, we learned a lot. And our goals evolved. By the time our proposed launch date rolled around, we realized we wanted to take more time to develop a project that was truly Community-Led.

So we went back to the drawing board. Thankfully, the Commsaur community has been super understanding, and we’re so grateful for their continued support.

That said, I’m absolutely thrilled to share that the commsaurs are on their way once more! Minting will officially kick off on February 24, 2022.

So, what’s changed?

Who we’re creating this project for.

Rather than trying to merge the world of NFT enthusiasts and community folks, we’re prioritizing the latter. Ultimately, we want the project to be fun, experimental, and educational, and for Commsaur to act as a bridge between Web2 and Web3 for community builders.

We want community builders from a variety of industries and backgrounds to experience their first mint, their first snapshot vote, their first airdrop, and more. The best way to learn from and understand a new space is to immerse yourself in it — Commsaur is a way for them to do that with our support.

Another of our primary goals is to create more value for the community industry — which is why 80% of the profits will be poured back into the community.

The proceeds will go into a Community Wallet managed by our future DAO, who will decide which community projects to fund. By holding an NFT, members will be able to participate in a decentralized voting system and submit proposals to fund Web3 community initiatives (like Wed3 educational resources, a new community podcast, etc.)

What hasn’t?

We’re still pledging to offset the carbon footprint of our Commsaur project. For every commsaur bought, 5 trees will be planted by Eden Reforestation Projects.

We've partnered with Ecologi and Gold Standard for this part of the project, both of which have exceptional and rigorous standards, to ensure we fulfil the necessary climate impact and Sustainable Development Goals.

That means greener pastures — and plenty of leaves — for every commsaur.

Meet the commsaurs

All our NFTs are modeled after our mascot, the original commsaur (although they'll all have their own characteristics, style, and dino-mite personality).

Each commsaur will be randomly generated, and we've developed different body shapes, headwear, glasses, expressions, colors, outfits, and backgrounds. Each one will be completely unique — there are more than 3 billion possible combinations, but only 3,333 commsaurs will ever exist.

Each of these community-loving creatures will cost 0.033 ETH to mint.

For more info, head over to our website. To stay up-to-date, join the Commsaur Discord or follow @commsaur on Twitter.

We'll see you at the dino-store on February 24! Minting kicks off at 1 p.m. ET.
